Second Lien Modification Program - CDPE

Second Lien Modification Program …
Are You Eligible?

The Second Lien Modification Program (2MP) is for homeowners who are struggling with payments in part because of a second lien on their home. For those who are eligible, the program offers a way to lower payments on their second mortgage. 2MP is a complementary program to the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP), so it is meant for those who have already modified their first mortgage through HAMP.

Are you eligible? Take this short survey to find out:

Question Answer
1. Has your first lien been modified under the Home Affordable Modification Program?
2. Was your second lien originated on or before January 1, 2009?
3. Is your second lien's unpaid principal balance more than $5,000 OR do you have a pre-modification scheduled monthly payment of more than $100?
4. Are your second lien payments due while you are still paying your first lien?
5. Is your second lien insured, guaranteed, or held by any agency OTHER than a Federal government agency (e.g. FHA, HUD, VA, and Rural Development)?

How to Recognize a Mortgage Scam

You might be a victim of a scam if:

  • You are told you will get a federal incentive to walk away from your mortgage
  • You are asked to pay upfront for counseling
  • You are pressured to sign papers immediately
  • You are asked to sign your house over to a company or person who is not working with your mortgage company
  • You are asked to make a mortgage payment to someone other than your mortgage company without their approval
  • You are guaranteed a successful short sale or mortgage modification
  • They claim to be a representative of the federal government

If you believe that you are a victim of a scam, you should contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357) or visit their Complaint Assistant https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov.
